Stress is something that affects most people nowadays to varying levels. While some stress is considered to be good for the body and nothing to be concerned about, if it gets to the stage of getting in the way of your daily health and causing you to miss work, then you may be dealing with chronic stress. This can affect your body in different ways that can cause long term health issues.

To help you identify and avoid too much stress before it hits and causes any of these problems, then in this post we’re going to share with you some of the different ways stress can affect your body.

It Can Lower Concentration:

Although it’s normal for all of us to have days or certain times in the day when our concentration is going to be a bit lowered. This is especially true if we’re tired. That’s because too much time spent not being able to concentrate on things can be problematic and can start affecting things like how you perform at work and even be downright dangerous. 

For example, if you’re having to drive or operate heavy or large items, then it’s not something you want to be dealing with.

It Can Cause Insomnia:

Sleep is crucial to maintaining good levels of physical and mental health. The average recommended amount of sleep each night of 7-8 hours is something that most of us don’t manage most of the time. Suffering from stress can cause a severe lack of sleep known as insomnia. Insomnia can cause health problems and is an extremely frustrating condition to have. Although it can be helped with medication, these aren’t something that are recommended long term, so if stress is the cause of insomnia, then this is what needs to be treated.

It Can Irritate Skin & Hair:

High levels of stress can impact your body by depleting it of essential vitamins and cause your immune system to be weakened, which can have a direct impact on things like your skin and hair. If you’re suffering from high levels of stress, you may find that your skin is very dry and irritated, or it could be breaking out and you’re finding more rashes and spots than normal. 

The other thing that ongoing high levels of stress can cause is for your hair to become thinner or even start falling out. This is obviously something you’ll want to make sure you get taken care of before it becomes extreme. As such, you should definitely look into how to keep your hair healthy and prevent hair loss.

It Can Raise Blood Pressure:

Having high blood pressure on an ongoing basis and without having treatment for it puts you at higher risk of things like heart attacks and strokes, and can also cause damage to your kidneys, so it’s not something that should be taken lightly. 

Stress is a main contributor in high blood pressure, so if you’re finding your stress levels too high, then it’s time to speak to your doctor about possible treatment options and also how to maintain normal levels of blood pressure in the meantime.

As you can see, stress is a serious issue if it becomes too extreme or is an ongoing thing that you’re dealing with, and although a little bit of stress is normal and not usually anything to worry about, it can lead to other serious health problems that can be harder to treat and may end up needing medication in the long term for, so if you feel like you’re more stressed than you should be, then it’s a good idea to make an appointment to speak with your doctor about how to deal with your stress levels and get them under control to prevent any future problems.
