Why do you need a home extension?
Over the past year we have all had to spend more time in our homes due to the pandemic that has plagued our lives. Many of us have had to work from home with children needing home-schooling and University students needing to come back home early. In many households this has created chaos and a rather stressful year! However, one thing that we can all agree on, is that this year has shown us how important having your own space is in the home.
One of the main areas in the home that can quickly become cramped is the kitchen, as your little ones grow up and the space which used to work wonderfully for you is now just too small. The kitchen is a central hub for family life, where memories are created, shared and reminisced at every stage of life. For many, the kitchen is the pride and joy of the house, and it is important that it continues to meet your needs as your family grows.
Whilst some families may choose to upsize and move house, a growing number of families are choosing to invest in their homes and have an extension. There are different types of kitchen extension you can choose to have, each with different prices and suitability to your house. You can choose to have a simple rear extension, adding space to the back of your property, or a side return extension, which fills in dead space down the side of your home. If you want a larger extension, you can have both combined into what is known as a wrap-around extension. Building an extension is one of the most cost-efficient ways of adding value and space to your property, with most extensions adding more value to a property than the total cost of adding an extension.
Typically, a home extension will involve extending the kitchen at the rear of the property. This allows you to have a gorgeous open-plan kitchen, with skylights to coax in plenty of natural lighting. Another option is to add a ground floor living space behind your kitchen area or add a ground floor bathroom or utility room. At Simply Extend, we have had several clients investing in a home extension to add a new bedroom to their property, either on the ground floor or as a double storey extension above a new larger kitchen space.
There are so many options when it comes to investing in your home with an extension, and you can customise your extension to suit your needs. Whether you need the new space to accommodate a new addition to your family, to welcome back an older member of the family, or a new space to entertain family and friends after months without social occasions, a home extension could be exactly what you need.
