What are the 7 Learning Areas of EYFS?

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is an educational framework designed to actively monitor the progress of a child during his or her early years (between 0 and 5). This is one of the best ways to appreciate the progression of a child while determining any perceived strengths and weaknesses.

It is also wise to mention that the EYFS programme offers as number of unique benefits. It improves social behaviour, establishes a passion for learning, improves the languages of a child, and represents an excellent way to introduce the concept of social diversity. In order to fully appreciate what is in store, let’s take a quick look at the seven stages which comprise the EYFS.

Social, Personal and Emotional Development

This area comprises how a child begins to interact with his or her peers. It also involves development from an emotional perspective (such as the ability to express basic thoughts and feelings.

Language and Communication

Language and communication skills will be evaluated around the age of two or three years; coinciding with the time when children generally begin learning such skills.

Physical Development

How is a child physically developing in relation to his or her peers? Factors such as height, weight, motor skills, and coordination will be measured in order to ensure that no issues are present at the time.

An Introduction to Basic Mathematics

Children should begin learning fundamental maths principles during the EYFS. Basic counting, the ability to discern between different shapes, time, and weight are some concepts which are normally introduced. Other skills such as distance, money and the ability to solve basic maths problems are also evaluated.

A Comprehension of the Outside World

Children will likewise be guided in order to begin understanding the outside world as well as their relationship with this environment. This provides an excellent opportunity to explore and to learn about how their actions impact the world.

Design and Expressive Arts

Children are given the opportunity to play with various objects and materials so that they learn to appreciate how they can express their feelings with different forms of media. They will also be introduced to music, art and role-playing, and even some forms of digital technology.

Children should be able to demonstrate basic literacy skills within the EYFS framework. Rhyming, understanding phonics, listening, attention, and matching words together are all areas which will be covered.

As we can see, there are numerous stages to appreciate in order to leverage the benefits of the EYFS programme. This can sometimes be challenging for parents and caregivers due to the sheer amount of details to follow. This is why the Tiny Tracker EYFS tracking system is such a powerful tool. Information can be recorded within seconds and these details can be examined in greater detail at a later date. Perhaps more importantly, caregivers will be able to spend more hands-on time with the child. This is an excellent way to ensure proper development from the very beginning.
