Saona is located 12 miles off the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. It’s no surprise – this Caribbean island off the coast of Bayahibe is straight out of a postcard from paradise with its numerous powdery white sand beaches, bright turquoise waters, sandbanks, and towering palm trees, with no major development.
We were collected promptly in an 8-seater mininbus at 6.30am provided by Punta Cana best excursions, and driven approximately 60 minutes to the shore.
It was a huge Adrenalin rush to go in the speedboat, bouncing along on the waves. Our captain carefully negotiated his way through the ocean to our first snorkelling beauty spot, we jumped into the crystal blue waters and swam with an array of high coloured fish.
With another stop only 15 minutes into our next ride, we were met with waist height blue water with a soft sandy bottom allowing a perfect photo stop. We took the opportunity to rest and relax, allowing ourselves to float in what was a perfect paradise.
A short ride to Saona, and we were met on The Island by enthusiastic locals showing us their homemade gifts. We had 3 hours of rest and relaxation and enjoyed a simple delicious lunch of chicken and rice.
After what seemed like a few minutes, our time was finished on the Island and we hopped onto the speed boat to take us to our second adventure of the day- a party catamaran.
The boat has plenty of different places to sit, many of them had shade which we needed as it was 3pm and the sun was beating down. We found a spot in the net at the front of the boat and we enjoyed the occasional spray of water, the journey took a little over an hour and a half and we enjoyed every minute.
We arrived back at our hotel at 7pm, it had been a long day for Minime but we would do it again in a heart beat.
