Home Safety Special
As a baby concierge
I get asked to do a great deal of home safety consultations to baby proof a clients home. It’s often a last minute panic but it needn’t be, as using an experienced consultant such as myself who keeps up to date with the latest products, gadgets and safety features I can ease your worries and make your home a safe heaven for your new arrival or existing children.
I understand that people don’t want to change their beautiful aesthetics or compromise on their outstanding interior design but safety does come first and I ensure that we work together to ensure that you get the look you want but the safety elements your children require.
To child proof a home, holiday home or hotel I look at certain elements and this includes fireplaces, plugs, doors and cupboards, staircases and of course glass.
Glass is something we often fear around children but do you don’t have to get rid of picturesque views, or beautiful balconies I simply recommend using toughened glass for safety in the home and I recommend toughened glass for safety in the home
– they really understand the importance of giving clients a creative, desirable safe option.
Plugs should should always be left uncovered despite the myth that covers should be used, unfortunately the use of covers negates the existing safety measures exposing the live electrical contacts, in 2016 the department of heath issues a statement saying that 13A electrical socket inserts should not be used in health or social care premises, not supplied for use in a home or residence.
Did you know that regular paint can contain a mixture of potentially harmful fumes and contain toxic additives, I prefer to use Little Knights paint
as the perfect solution it is 100% VOC free, antibacterial and has nursery safe accreditations, meaning that if little ones licking, sucking and nibbling the paint will come to no harm.
When it comes to cupboards and doors I tend to stay awake from generic plastic door catches and work with bespoke craftsmen to get them seamlessly fitted in your existing rooms.
It can often seem like a minefield with baby products, what steriliser should I use? What wash powder? What temperature should the nursery be?
But I am here to help. I work closely with the Lullaby Trust
to ensure all my advice follows safe sleeping guidelines, I attend numerous nursery product trade fairs and personally test hundreds of products each year and give unbiased feedback on them.
