Looking after your health can become an afterthought when other responsibilities take over. Not getting enough sleep or having sufficient time to cook healthy meals can take a toll on your well-being, but there are other risks associated with a busy lifestyle, too.

When it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day, it’s easy to become stressed, anxious and irritable. While these challenging periods are often defining moments of growth, they can also have a seriously negative effect on your health in the short, medium and long term. So how can you stay at the top of your game when life is throwing everything at you?

If you’ve got a lot of responsibilities at work and home, keeping small amounts of time free to attend to your health can help you stay positive and productive when times are tough. It’s important to be protective of this time, no matter how short it is, as it can be tempting to sacrifice these brief periods in an effort to get ahead.

In reality, taking even just a few brief moments to focus on your well-being makes it far easier to sustain your output over time, instead of trying to get everything done in one day. But what are the best ways to benefit your health when you’re busy?

 

Stay Hydrated

It sounds simple, but few people drink enough water every day. The human body is made up of around 60% water, so keeping on top of your water intake is essential to maintain healthy bodily functions. Dehydration can lead to a lack of focus, fatigue and even dizziness and fainting, so keeping track of your water intake is an easy way of looking after yourself. 

It’s recommended that adults drink around eight fl oz of water a day, but you’ll need more if you exercise, live in a warm climate or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Carrying a reusable water bottle is a great way to make sure you stay hydrated on the go and will help you keep track of how much water you drink. Taking just a few moments every now and again to rehydrate will benefit your health immensely.

If things are hectic, multivitamin supplements can provide you with all of the essential vitamins and minerals to support your immune system.
