Mama and Minime go Krazy in Krakow
I promised Minime that we would go somewhere in the February half term and we narrowed it down Cuba or Cape Verde and at the 11th hour he decided that he wanted to go to Poland! I have to say that I was surprised and a little upset I was going to miss out on a beach holiday but nevertheless I packed our bags and off we went!
The first plus to this trip was we only needed a lateral flow test to travel which we got at Manchester airport 3 hours before we flew, the results were quickly delivered to my phone after 20 minutes.
I chose Ryanair flights which were at a great time and I like ease of their booking system, especially as I only booked 36 hours before we flew! I completed the necessary Polish locater form and we were ready for the off.
Important notice! We flew at 9pm and there were no restaurants open in the airport and not a sandwich to be found. All of the food outlets were closed and boots and WHSmith were all out. We eventually managed to source a lonely panini at Starbucks, phew, as Minime was gnawing at my wrist by this point.
The flight was slightly delayed but boarding was quick and pain free, I had loaded the iPad with Netflix for the little dude and I popped in my AirPods to enjoy a bit of RnR on the short journey. Passport control was quick and we were outside within 30 minutes of landing.
Our hotel was outside the town centre and it’s now almost midnight so, I booked an Uber which arrived within minutes! The journey to the Hilton by Hampton was about 15 minutes and cost about £8 which was an absolute bargain.
Check in was easy as we were the only ones there but there weren’t any shops open close by and the hotel didn’t offer room service, so we made do with some pretzels from the hotel snack counter. Time to hit the hay as they say.
Breakfast was between 6.30am-10.30am and I’ve got to say I always love a Hilton breakfast, so much choice:
Cooked with bacon, sausages, eggs, omelettes, beans and mushrooms
Continental with pancakes , cereals, fruits, muffins, croissants etc
Extras such as smoked salmon, Brie, homemade cake etc
We had breakfast and headed to the spa which was bliss, there was a pool and jacuzzi and the added benefit of a stream room, sauna, ice and heat experience. Towels were provided and the lockers had electronic keys which were great.
I ordered an Uber in the afternoon to take us into the town (£4) and we had a walk around old town which was absolutely beautiful, there is an eclectic mix of high street and old style shops and markets, horse drawn carriages and the best thing is it’s completely pedestrianised.
Ordering food can be a little overwhelming as it’s mainly in Polish, and a little difficult to navigate. Luckily for me Minime is pretty adventurous with food and will try anything! My advice is to be brave, wing it and take a chance on smaller independent restaurants.
I would advise anyone not to try and get a taxi 5-7pm as it’s manic and the town turns into a crazy horn honking madness. Apart from that we had a very successful day.
Day two- We went to Auschwitz please see the full review here.
Day three- We were both exhausted the sheer amount of steps and the sadness around Auschwitz grounded us to the hotel and we made the most of the spa again and enjoyed an Uber eats meal in our room.
Final day- I gave Minime the choice of what he wanted to do and he chose to head back into Krakow, so I once again ordered an Uber by the hour which waited with our luggage while we enjoyed a morning of walking around the town, eating local street food and visiting numerous souvenir shops collecting a bag full of trinkets to bring home.
A quick 15 minute taxi ride and we were at Krakow and I completed our English passenger locator forms on the way! The airport was full of places to eat and check in was super easy.
We flew back on 18/2/22 where the UK was being hit by Storm Eunice and to say our flight was eventful was an understatement, luckily I have a strong stomach and Minime thought it was like being on Oblivion at Alton Towers! I have never been on a plane where everyone clapped when we eventually landed safely.
What an adventure- keep your eyes peeled for more mama and Minime travel adventures.
