Lockdown has impacted many people in different ways, but those with disabilities have been hit hard with the closure of social groups, access to adapted sports and many wheelchair accessible venues have been shut. Leaving many people wondering how to fill their days.
How do you meet new friends and form relationships when you are disabled in these challenging times? It is simple you explore a disabled dating site! They have no closing time, no restrictions and you are free to browse at your leisure.
Many people are turning to dating sites, and in 2020 alone over 50% of people reported they were using social media more frequently, 33% were using virtual meeting sites. All you need is a phone/tablet or laptop and an internet connection or data package.
There is much less pressure meeting someone online, you can talk about your likes and dislikes, and see if you might be a good match from the comfort of your living room. No awkward first dates when there is a possibility of you realise you have nothing in common or are not compatible.
Online dating is great for deaf people and those with a hearing impairment as it enables you to use British Sign Language through video calling after you have initially made contact through the dating site and struck up an online friendship through a deaf and dumb dating site. There are multiple channels you can use for video calls such as Whatsapp or Facetime, Zoom and Skype.
There is super software available for those who are blind or visually impaired, A screen reader is an essential piece of software, in simple terms a screen reader transmits whatever text is displayed on the computer screen into a form that a visually impaired user can process (usually tactile, auditory or a combination of both). While the most basic screen readers will not help blind users navigate a computer, those with additional features can give people with visual impairment much more independence.
You can think outside the box when it comes to online dating and arrange to watch a film together, have a takeaway together or simply enjoy your favourite tipple together- and when I say “together” I mean each of you in the comfort of your own home enjoying the company online.
There are lots of things you can do to stop things going stale, such as:
- Send each other little gifts, let them know you have been paying attention in your late-night chats, think simple but thoughtful, a box of biscuits and a packet of their favourite tea or a miniature bottle of whiskey with some dark chocolate.
- Play online games against each other, there are hundreds such as pub quizzes, words games, brain games and card games. It can be a great way of interacting without having to think of endless conversation.
- Online escape rooms are perfect- Reading-based escape room Deadlocked has pivoted to online experiences in light of the lockdown, launching the Insiders in an exciting twist three “episodes” take you into the Wexell Corporation, and your aim is to find the mole at the company who has been working against them using sensitive information.
You can play alone or in a team and it recommends allowing a break of three days in between each episode. Perfect for scheduling your next few online dates.
With lockdown restrictions not looking like it is going to stop anytime soon, now is the time to try online dating. Don’t let fear of the unknown prevent you from possibly finding love online.
